I tried the above download link and sourceforge download site, but couldn't get gentee compiler and virtual machine source code, are they open sourced or only the memory management portion is open sourced?

We are developing the open source gentee project from the beginning. We are using the current sources but we try to improve them.

Master a programming language is a time consuming process. It is a long term investment for a programmer, we really hope that after investing one year or so, we can continue to use the language in serious application, the last thing we want is like visual basic 6.0 to visual basic.net transition and borland (goin to) abandone (sell) delphi cases. these will make our effort flush down to the drain.

The only way to ensure that a language will live for very long time is open source it. even the big company like sun and microsoft knew it, therefore recently sun is thinking of "open source" java and microsoft has submited c# specification to ECMA (but people still prefer them to be open sourced and reluctant to spend time on it at current state, at least for the people i know)

With so many quality open source languages around like python, php, ruby, i believe that one of the factor for gentee to be sucess is open source it, make people believe that their time invest on this language is not goin to waste, their future with gentee is secured.

I hope gentee could open its current source and build up it community as soon as possible. i think gentee can still make profit by selling the optimizer programs, commercial support and even books (ya, who know?) just like php make their zend optimizer an commercial product.

Yes, I agree with you completely. Gentee is a very young language and it has not yet had a big community. I hope open source project will increase its popularity. I think we can say our plans and purposes more strictly in a couple of months.
